Street Scape Project
As can be seen by anyone visiting the District new buildings are being built at a frenzied pace, changing the look of the area for the better. In conjunction with this process, the HDSID is also planning for a new face of Historic Downtown’s major thoroughfare: Newark Avenue. The SID will shortly have renderings for a street scape for the entire District, to be accomplished in phases that will include new lighting, street furniture and sidewalks we have also begun the application process for State and Federal Grants to support the project. Look up, on the poles, it’s a… hanging flower basket full of color and life.
Throughout the District our light poles have received new flower baskets for the seasons. Our Clean team is keeping them blooming all season long. If you notice a basket not looking healthy please give us a call at once.
Newark Ave ROZ Updates
The amendment to the ROZ ordinance has been in effect for over a year! The district has been lucky enough to see some booming results including new and improved menus from old favorites such as LITM, new, eclectic restaurants opening such as Soul Flavors, with tasty, trendy soul food and Sawadee, delicious Thai food with a great atmosphere! There are also many just about ready to open including Skinners Loft and Ox! Looking forward to trying all the new flavors coming to the neighborhood!

Advertisng Subsidy
The HDSID has launched a new and improved Ad Subsidy Program, allowing members to receive up to $1,500 in ad subsidies based upon their advertising budget. Please call the office for details. All local advertisers are familiar with the program and should inform you of the details when they sell you ad space. This gives our precious local business the opportunity to advertise in more publications at a reduced rate, please take advantage!
Operations
Clean Team
We have been pleased with the; performance of our hardworking Clean Team. They work a total of 120 hours per week sweeping the sidewalks in our district, picking up the litter along the streets and curbs, perform weeding where necessary and also water the flowers. If you notice any specific problems in your area please let us know. Also remember that you are also responsible for the front of your building! Lets work together to make our district clean and beautiful! Thanks.
